Apprenticeship Opportunity
In search for individuals looking to make their mark in a high demand industry. As a Plumber/ Pipefitter Apprentice you are an entry-level professional who is learning how to install, maintain, or repair pipes. Other aspects of the trade you will be learning is how to read blueprints, run tests, and identify malfunctioning pipes. This program is a 4 year, 8000 man hour, fully accredited DPOR Apprenticeship which will allow you to take your Journeyman Tradesmen license after completion.
Employment Conditions:
- Be a US Citizen.
- Must be able to pass background check and drug screen.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must attend and complete classroom portion of apprenticeship at New Horizons Campus in Newport News which is paid in advance by James River Mechanical.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and other tradespeople.
- Must be able to complete computer-based safety training (provided by our company).
- Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable source of transportation to and from work.
Combination Welder/Fitter
In search of experienced a Combination Welder/Fitter. As a Combination Welder/Fitter you will review blueprints to fabricate, install and weld piping for an array of industrial processing systems.
Requirements:
- Weld pipes/metals with various techniques, such as MIG, TIG, and Stick.
- Work from drawings, submittals and specifications to assemble and install a variety of metal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of carbon steel and stainless steel.
- Secure pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools.
- Maintain a clean and a safe work area.
- Work safely, encourages others to do so, and complies with applicable health and safety-related rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Perform other duties as directed by supervisor
Employment Condition:
- Be a US Citizen.

- 5 years’ experience preferred.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must obtain AWS 6G certification through James River Mechanical.
- Must have experience with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding methods.
- Must have knowledge of properties in various welding rods and fluxes used in welding metal.
- Must have experience with cutting and assembling pipe.
- Must have the ability to work within precise limits and standards of accuracy.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively and deal diplomatically with coworkers and other tradespeople.
- Must be able to complete computer-based safety training (provided by our company).
- Must have knowledge of OSHA safety regulations.
- Must be able to carry up to 50 pounds.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable source of transportation to and from work
Pipefitter
In search of pipefitter who Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs and maintains piping systems, pipe supports, fixtures, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water fixtures and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling and production and processing systems.
Requirements:
- Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment, such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders, according to job specifications
- Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions
- Plans sequence on installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other workers.
- Cuts pipe using hacksaw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine.
- Threads pipe using threading machine
- Bends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending tools and machine
- Mounts pipe hangers and brackets on walls and ceiling to hold pipe
- Assembles and installs a variety of metal or nonmetal pipes and pipe fittings, using threaded caulked, soldering, brazen, fused, or cemented joints, and hand tools
- Secures pipes to structure with bracket, clamps, and hangers, using hand and power tools
- Installs and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including compressors, pumps, meter, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping
- Test piping systems for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indication of leaks
- Welds pipe supports to structural steel members
- May observe production machines in assigned area of manufacturing facility to detect machinery malfunctions. May operate machinery to verify repair
- Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment and supplies
- May assist in lifting, positioning and securing of material and work pieces during installation
- Performs minor maintenance of cleaning activities of tools and equipment
- Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules. Perform other duties as required

Piping Foreman
Piping Foreman will report directly to the Superintendent and will be responsible for leading and managing a team to deliver exceptional quality and customer service to our clients. The Foreman will be closely working with the Superintendent to understand the goals and direction of James River Mechanical, Inc. and lead their team to generate profits.
Requirements:
- Develop solutions to make sure issues never become problems.
- Reviews projects with Superintendent and/or Project Manager.
- Does physical survey of project with the Superintendent to ascertain conditions
- Does takeoffs for projects in a timely and thorough manner with the Superintendent.
- Plan, coordinate and supervise on-site functions to include, but not limited to, scheduling, material control, and rentals.
- Provide job completion percentages.
- Assures all site personnel comply with project procedures, safety requirements, company policies and other requirements as they occur. Documents all incidents as they occur and notifies Project Manager and Superintendent. Recommends and implements corrective action.
- Responsible for assuring that all jobs have weekly reports filled and turned into the office weekly. This is to include safety / tool box reports, preconstruction, weekly production report and any project specific reports.
- Conducts inspections on jobs, assures jobs are detailed to James River Mechanical, Inc. standards, assures jobs are ready, and participates as needed, in start-ups and coordinates as needed with contractors, engineers, subcontractors and owners as necessary.
- Coordinates with shop for production scheduling and deliveries.
- 4 plus years’ experience; journeyman or able to obtain license.
- 2 plus years’ experience running work.
- Able to manage a crew from 1 to 10.
- Able to read blue prints and prepare materials lists.
- Work to increase Team efficiency and uphold high standards of safety at all times.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must be self-motivated and punctual.
- Must be able to multi-task and have excellent follow up skills both internally and externally.
- Must be professional in appearance and speech.
- Experience with government facilities a plus.
